LEXYGIUS SANCHEZ CALIP

 

LEXYGIUS SANCHEZ CALIP b. March 24, 1974, Manila, Philippines, he studied Fine Arts at the Technological University of the Philippines, and currently pursuing an undergraduate degree majoring in "New Genres" under the presidential merit scholarship at the San Francisco Art Institute. He had several solo exhibitions, numerous group exhibitions, workshops, talks and lectures in the Philippines, France, Germany, and the United States. He is a Freeman Fellowship Foundation Fellow and Alumni for the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson VT, and an Artist in Residence Alumni for The Stonehouse Residency for the Contemporary Art in California. He was a Thirteen Artist Awards nominee with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the Ateneo Art Awards at the Ateneo Museum of Modern Art in Manila, and had merits from the Arts Association of the Philippines and The Philip Morris Asean Art Awards, and a member of The Shadequarter Initiative for the Arts in CA. He lived and practiced in Oakland and San Francisco since 2006 and maintained a studio at The Hunter’s Point Studios in San Francisco until 2012 before he moved to the Midwest. He practiced and curated exhibitions in Chicago and New York and maintained a studio at the Pilsen Art and Design Studios and later on at MANA Contemporary in Chicago. He briefly served as a Gallery director and curator for a contemporary art gallery in Chicago, taught art, and did curatorial projects and exhibitions with different galleries, art centers, and alternative exhibition spaces as well. He currently resides in Berkeley and continues his education, curatorial, and art practice in California.
